Title of Piece: Self Care

Size: 48" x 36"

Medium: Acrylic on canvas

Price: 2450

Description: June 4, 2024 - In June 2022, researchers in Indonesia observed a wild orangutan purposefully apply a poultice of sap and crushed leaves to an open wound on his face. It's likely the first time we've witnessed intentional wound treatment to this level by a non-human species, however, it's highly unlikely this is the first time it's happened. That orangutan was almost assuredly taught this. We evolved in the same way. Every aspect of modern medicine and healthcare has been learned and passed on. How beautiful to see it in another species. My painting depicts an exaggerated form of self care with a bandage on the orangutan's face. Humans are just evolved hairless apes who have a slightly more advanced level of medicine and the ability to communicate and save information. We're only a couple million years ahead of the orangutan, which is the blink of an eye in terms of time and evolution.
