It was a perfectly normal day as we drove through the valley
Artist Statement:
Each day, I watch my brother, Bryce, create beautiful figurative art, which I am blessed to be able to promote. Sometimes, though, he will abandon a painting mid-creation. When that happens, we call it a ‘blown canvas.’ I use the discarded materials to create my own abstract landscapes. Blown canvases, old unwanted paints, and tools Bryce rarely uses. I only paint when the mood strikes, so where Bryce creates quickly, one painting for me will take months. His work is pretty and smooth, with precise lines and colors. I smear the paint together, I scratch and tear at the canvas, and my work is tactile and gritty. Yet in my creation, he is always there. He is my audience and I am his. I am the first to see his finished paintings, and he is the first to see mine. Despite looking nothing like Bryce’s work, these paintings are an ode to him and that need to create that my brother has inspired in me.
